Katia Lifshin

Biography

Katia Lifshin (b. 1993, Ukraine) is an Israeli artist whose work explores the boundaries between the human body, the natural world, and the subconscious. Drawing inspiration from natural phenomena such as bioluminescence and spiral tree trunks, she creates psychologically charged, surreal landscapes influenced by dreams, emotional memory, and altered perception. Lifshin studied art for three years at a community college in Tucson, Arizona, and continued developing her practice independently as a self taught artist, shaping a distinctive and personal visual language.
Lifshin has exhibited internationally, including solo shows in New York, London, Berlin, and Taipei. Her work is held in prominent private and institutional collections across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. She currently lives and works in Tel Aviv.

Artist Statement

My work explores the emotional and psychological spaces where the human body, the subconscious, and the natural world intersect.
Working primarily in painting, I construct dynamic, often surreal environments inhabited by feminine figures. Climbing, running, or suspended in moments of transformation. These characters move
through spaces where bodily limits dissolve and the boundaries between internal and external realities blur. Recurring motifs such as wood, vegetation, and bioluminescent light act as emotional markers, forming a visual dialogue between nature and personal narrative.
Over time, I’ve developed a monochromatic blue-green world around these characters, a limited palette that became a foundation for exploring introspection, solitude, and mystery. In these nocturnal
spaces, light and shadow became symbolic tools, light, in particular, representing clarity, resilience, and moments of emotional awareness.
As the work evolved, my palette gradually expanded. Brighter tones and new variations introduced shifts in mood and meaning. While I continue to explore the tension between darkness and light, my focus has moved toward expressing the human experience of awe and curiosity, not simply projecting inner states onto nature, but showing the figures fully immersed within it. Nature remains a constant presence and force, something we move with, not merely observe.
