Biography
Donghoon Rhee（生於1991年），以木材雕刻植物、動物與人物形象，探索木材媒材自身所蘊含並生成的植物性形態與身體動態。他透過重新觀看已完成的雕塑作品，或藉由攝影記錄後轉譯為繪畫，探究作品在不同媒材之間轉換時，材料與形式如何產生變化。雕塑中顯現的表面、結構與形態，經由油彩或壓克力重新轉譯至畫布；透過改變觀看雕塑的角度與視點，他聚焦於形式在轉譯過程中的變化，以及由此產生的感知差異。對他而言，繪畫不僅是對雕塑的再詮釋，更成為開啟全新觀看方式與知覺經驗的媒介。
Rhee 畢業於韓國慶熙大學繪畫系，並取得首爾科技大學（Seoul National University of Science and Technology）藝術創作碩士（MFA）學位。曾舉辦個展包括《Light Choreography》（Gallery SP，首爾，2023）、《Woman》（VSF&milk，洛杉磯，2022），以及《The Statue Knows How to Dance》（Gallery SP，首爾，2021）。亦參與多項重要聯展，包括《Idolography: Reading K-pop at the Presseum》（Presseum，首爾，2025）、《2024 第七屆昌原雕塑雙年展前導展：Speaking about the Future: Shape, Map, Tree》（昌原，2023）、《Natural Born Odds》（Salihara Arts Center，雅加達，2023），以及《Sculptural Impulse》（Buk-Seoul Museum of Art，首爾，2022）等。其作品已獲多個重要公私立藝術機構典藏，包括 北京 X Museum、濟州現代美術館（Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art）、蔚山市立美術館（Ulsan Art Museum）、韓國國立現代美術館（National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea，MMCA），以及韓國藝術銀行（Art Bank of Korea）。
Statement
對我而言，雕塑並非只是如實再現一個對象，而是在材料之中重新定義其形態。當我順著木材的紋理、密度與質地尋找形式時，我的注意力完全投注於材料與對象本身。在這個過程中，作為表達主體的「我」逐漸淡去，最終留下的只有材料與對象。
我的繪畫則成為一個重新檢視雕塑實踐的空間。在雕塑中，我尊重材料強烈的聲音，並依循它來決定對象的形態；而繪畫則是一個再次凝視那些經由雕塑生成的形狀、色彩與肌理的過程。我透過自己的眼睛，或透過相機鏡頭觀察它們，並將這些觀看重新反映於畫布之上。
當我順應材料的本質時，雕塑的形態往往會自然浮現。我曾雕刻植物、動物與人物，並思考那些只有木材才能形成的獨特造形。尤其是在動物與人物雕塑中，我特別關注動作如何改變形態。
K-pop偶像的編舞尤其鮮明地提出了這個問題。服裝、髮型與妝容所形成的色彩與造型，在與身體動作結合後，會產生全新的表現課題。透過這樣的探索，我思考如何讓「運動的感受」留存在材料之中。
